Sgt. Glendon (Glen) Bulmar Booth
Died : 7th February 1941
RAFVF Pilot (Sgt)
Only son of Henry and Margaret Booth
Died of injuries sustained after being shot down.

Sgt. Glen Booth was a fine and outstanding pilot, flying out of RAF Croydon during the Battle of Britain. His Hawker Hurricane was shot down by a German plane on 1st September 1940 and he bailed out. Unfortunately, his parachute was damaged by fire and he fell to earth too quickly, causing massive spinal injuries that left him paralysed.

Glen landed in a garden in Littleheath Road in Selsdon, Surrey and was initially cared for by the Holt family who fetched him a mattress and an ambulance. Glen had been out on 3 sorties in less than 3 days and was not only terribly injured but just plain exhausted.

Despite the best efforts of all involved, Glen's injuries were severe and he died the following February from kidney failure after enduring much pain and suffering.

Glen was buried in Beckenham Cemetry on 13th February 1941. He was 20 years old.

Theres a bridge into forever,
And its only name is love,
Theres a light that shines in darkness,
From our angels up above,
In our hearts there is a promise,
That death can never win,
And a hope that will sustain us,
Until we meet again. xxxx God Bless Glen xxx

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there. I did not die.
